Butterhead Speckles Lettuce

"The Lettuce Butterhead Speckles, 'Lactuca sativa', is an Heirloom that originated from the Mennonites who brought it with them from Germany and Holland over 200 years ago. Make a salad with Speckles lettuce and no one will notice if there are bugs in it. The unusual speckling of these mild, tender, thick but soft leaves will add visual interest to any salad. Speckles is rarely bitter and is quick maturing. They will grow in light shade. Lettuce grows well near cabbage, beets, carrots, chives, garlic, and onion."

The tomatoes are a large, beefsteak type with 12 to 16 ounce fruits. Tomatoes need at least 1 inch of water a week. Soak to depth of 6 to 10 inches when watering. They need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. Prune the intermediate tomatoes in order to keep a single stem."
	Baby Lima White Dixie Bean - $1.89 "The Bean Bush Baby Lima White Dixie Butter, 'Phaseolus lunatus', has white, small ""baby"" lima beans that have a delicious flavor and mature earlier than most limas. Fresh lima beans taste so different than store bought beans that you won't recognize them. The White Dixie Butter is sweet, tender and nutty. This bush lima ends up loaded with pods. Lima beans prefer deep, sandy and well drained soils. Pick the pods when they are bulging but before they begin to turn yellow and dry out."
	Beefstake Tomato - $1.79 "The Tomato Pole Beefsteak, 'Lycopersicon lycopersicum', is an old favorite. The huge tomatoes can reach up to 2 pounds. This old favorite is for those who love meaty, thick, tasty, large tomatoes for sandwiches. They are also useful for almost any dish that would benefit from rich tomato flavor. The vines are so vigorous that we recommend wire cages to hold up the plants and tomatoes. Tomatoes need at least 1 inch of water a week. Soak to depth of 6 to 10 inches when watering. 	Big Seeded Mache Corn Salad - $1.59 "The Mache Corn Salad Big Seeded, 'Valerianella locusta', has the mildest flavor and softest texture of any salad green. The leaves are so tender, they melt in your mouth. We chose the big-seeded Mache variety because it handles spring/summer heat without getting bitter. Great for both north and south gardens. This old garden green, enjoyed in the late stone age, contrasts nicely with the sharp-flavored greens in salads. To harvest, simply cut off at ground level. The leaves can be picked off when they are 1 to 2 inches long."
